What's the difference between Keratia Replica Diamonds and diamonds ?

In order to help you to understand your purchase, we will explain to you the characteristics and key qualities of natural diamonds and compare them with the characteristics of Keratia Replica Diamonds.

We will also examine the price difference between natural diamonds and Keratia Replica Diamonds

Keratia have chosen to work with cubic zirconia.  The chemical structure of cubic zirconia is zirconium dioxyde.

Contrary to 99.9 % of the cubic zirconia used in the market, Keratia works exclusively with stones of the highest quality, with ideal similarities to the best diamonds.

In order to help you to understand your purchase, we will explain to you the characteristics and key qualities of natural diamonds and compare them with the characteristics of Keratia Replica Diamonds.

The 4 C's (colour, clarity, cut, carat) are the key factors which determine the quality of natural diamonds.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Colour

The word 'colour' may be misleading, that is to say the more colourless the diamond, the more valuable it is. Stones are graded on a colour scale from D to Z, i.e. from a colourless white to slight hues; the most desirable stones belong to the D and E categories. Diamond - being a natural product - sometimes does not offer a colourless or near colourless colour.  The beauty of Keratia Replica Diamonds is that they have been artificially created, with the eye of emulating only the best varieties of diamonds, i.e. the most colourless colours.   Keratia have selected with great care only the best replica diamonds of  these very sought after D and E colours.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Clarity

Virtually all diamonds, being products of nature, have tiny faults in their make-up.  These tiny faults, or inclusions are formed by minerals or fractures, when the diamond is being formed in the earth.  The less imperfections it has, the higher it is rated.  A stone is said to be 'flawless' if, under ten-power magnification, no internal flaws (clouds, feathers, pinpoints) are visible.  A truly flawless diamond is extremely rare and priced accordlingly.  The clarity of a stone is important : when light enters a diamond, it is reflected and refracted out.  If there is anything disrupting the flow of light in the stone, such as an inclusion, a proportion of the light reflected will be lost.

Here again, Keratia Replica Diamonds, being a technological creation, does not have the imperfections inherent in natural diamonds, and therefore the light is refracted of the stone freely and the stone scintillates more than most natural diamonds.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Cut

The cut of a diamond refers to the precise positioning of the facet on the surface of a diamond.

Diamonds with a cut rated as 'excellent' are rare and therefore expensive.  Hundreds of hours have to be spent by a highly skilled diamond cutter to obtain perfect proportions, as nature has got to be helped to produce perfect stones to today's standards.  As diamond is measured and sold by the weight, some cutters may maximise size instead of beauty, and then the stone looses brilliance, dispersion and scintillation.

None of this is true with Keratia Replica Diamonds : our stones are created in laboratories, therefore expert gemmologists use computer modelled designs to exacting technical standards, in order to maximise the brilliance and fire inherent in the material.  Thanks to the technology every facet is cut to the perfect proportions.

Keratia go a long way in order to ensure that their customers really have the 'crème de la crème' as far as quality of cut is concerned.  Keratia use only the 'Hearts and Arrows' cut.  This is not only a decisive difference between Keratia Replica Diamonds and most diamonds, but also between Keratia and most other companies selling lower quality types of cubic zirconia.

What is the 'Hearts and Arrows' cut ?

This cut has been developped by Japanese scientists and gemmologists to answer the demand of very demanding consumers for whom quality, brand, and status are key.  This is an ideal cut which brings out the best of the stone : the symmetry, the finish is perfect.  Only 0.5% of the diamond trade have their diamond cuts to these exacting standards (instead most privilege yield over quality) and the same applies to the world of Replica Diamonds.  Keratia is one of the rare companies in the world that provide such high quality stones to their customers.

What is the end result for you as a customer ?

When you will look at your stone with the naked eye, you will not see anything special, (you do not see hearts and arrows individually - they are only visible with a special gemmological microscope), but the result is that your stone has more sparkle, brilliance and scintillation that any other due of its perfect symmetrical cut.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Carat

First of all, please take notice of the following : In our online boutique at Keratia, we have chosen to give you the equivalences between the diameter of the stone in millimetres and its equivalence to the carat weight in diamond. These equivalences are an indication only, because, contrary to replica diamonds, natural diamonds are not always of a similar cut (see paragraph above) , and weight and size can differ slightly from stone to stone.

The weight of a one carat natural diamond is 0.20 gram.  The term carat derives from the ancient Greek term keration (from which we have created the name of the company Keratia).  The term keration named the seed of the carob-tree.  This seed bears the characteristics of having a uniform weight of 0.20 gram and this seed was used in the ancient world as standard weights for transactions in precious stones and metals.

The weight of a one carat cubic zirconia is heavier than 0.20 gram.  A cubic zirconia will weigh about 1.7 times the weight of a diamond of equivalent size.  In the case of a one carat replica diamond, the stone will weigh approximately 0.34 gram.  This is not a drawback as it is nice to feel some weight when you have your ring on your finger, although a difference of 0.14 gram is not noticeable.  The main part of the weight of the ring comes from the gold of the setting and Keratia use very generous quantities of gold for their jewellery.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : The origin of the stones

Natural diamond is a stone with a geological origin, i.e its genesis is to be found millions of years ago deep within the earth's mantle. Diamond is derived from carbon, and is extracted from rich deposits in mines.
Keratia have chosen to work with Cubic Zirconia.  The chemical structure of cubic zirconia is zirconium dioxide. It is synthesized in a laboratory, using the latest cutting edge processes. Yttrium is added to it, in order to further enhance the stone.
Natural diamonds and Keratia Replica diamonds are stones with a different molecular structure but whose optical qualities - seen to the naked eye - are astoundingly similar.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Hardness

The hardness of our stones is very close to that of natural diamonds. Natural diamond has a hardness of 10 Mohs, whereas Keratia Replica Diamonds have a hardness of 8.5 Mohs, which makes them close to the hardness of ruby of sapphire.

Keratia Replica Diamonds vs diamond : Price

The price of natural diamonds varies in function of the rating of the stone on the 4 C's scale and in particular, the price increases exponentially in relation to the carat weight of the stone.

A small table of price differences will be self-explanatory. Please note that the diamond prices quoted in the table below are approximate and are an indication only. They depend on other factors, like cut of the diamond, as well as world markets and pricing policy of the seller.
